The Passport Office says it will publish a list of applicants who have failed to pick up their passports from the office.

According to the Director of Passports, Mr Amanor Daku Mante, some 67,000 uncollected passports are currently with the office.

He said the problem had arisen because such applicants failed to give their correct contact addresses.

Explaining the delays in the issuance of passports in a radio interview on Accra based Citi FM Monday morning, Mr Mante said: “We have over 67,000 passports which have been issued but not collected. Why because, most of the applicants don’t even use their correct address.”

He explained that such applicants went through the application process through middle men “and so you’ll call them and not get them.”

“We have tried on a lot of occasions and we are not getting through to them,” he said.

He noted however that, “Very soon…I think this week we are going to publish all the names of those uncollected passports. But let me also state that we have put in an IT system that will alert anybody who applies for a passport will get an SMS.”
